1. Digital impressions in dentistry are accurate and precise to micrometers (thousandths of a millimeter), therefore the possibility of human error may be reduced to a minimum.
2. It can be applicable and beneficial for patients with sensitive pharyngeal reflexes, also known as gag reflexes (vomiturition). The feeling of nausea and suffocation that occurs during traditional impressions deters many patients from having their dentures made or fixed. Digital dental impressions do not involve any discomfort as no impression material enters the mouth. A series of photographs are captured at a pace of 200 images per minute by gently moving the small head of the scanner in the mouth, from these images the 3D virtual model is generated by a high-performance computer.
3. There is no significant amount of foreign material in the mouth. The liquid impression substance is used in the traditional method, and must remain motionless for 2-4 minutes in the mouth before it hardens. During the digital dental version however, there is no such thing, the scanning of one dental arch may be completed in 30-60 seconds.
4. The dental scanning procedure can be paused and resumed at any moment.
5. The optical impression of the teeth may be viewed and examined on a monitor directly next to the chair. The teeth may be seen in fully accurate shades close to reality, the scan result is extremely vividly descriptive, and our patients are glad to follow up with the procedure. 6. After the digital dental impression, the dentist can evaluate the virtual model from every aspect. The typical procedure makes this difficult. That is, the errors are instantly shown, whereas they would have been found later if a conventional impression was taken, and everything would have to be repeated at a later date. However, with a digital dental approach, we can instantly address these problems without wasting time, saving our patients the time and inconvenience of a second impression.
7. A patient may be allergic to conventional impression material on rare occasions.(e.g. silicone) Intraoral scanning of the teeth is the sole perfect option in such instances.
8. The final, approved digital optical impression will be processed over the Internet in the dental laboratory in minutes, with no deterioration, where the work will be able to begin immediately. This drastically reduces the time required to prepare dentures.
